Damage at the Vrieseweg
Damage to the houses on the Vrieseweg caused by the Allied air raid on October 24, 1944. Here we see the destroyed Clara- and Mariahof. On October 24, 1944, the Royal Air Force, acting on instructions from the Resistance in Dordrecht, carried out a bombing raid on Park Merwesteijn, where the headquarters of the 15th Army was located. The bombing resulted in more civilian casualties than German casualties. Claims by the Resistance that many staff officers and hundreds of Germans had been killed proved to be untrue.
