Commemoration Kriegsmarine
A German commemoration of a Kriegsmarine unit at the general cemetery in Dordrecht. The photo was taken on March , 1942. This was a remembrance ceremony where wreaths were laid for the fallen the Flussräumflottille Niederlande. The officer on the left in the photo is Mr. Emmerich Schrittwieser. He was the Flotilla Commander between January 1941 and September 1944. On the left in the background, you can still see the old chapel where many services were held for deceased German soldiers during the war. The German graves were located in the current section R1. The Dutch war graves were a bit further in section N.
