Dutch POWs

Dutch prisoners of war at the former house Novia in Dubbeldam. Nowadays, this house is called the Hooge Heul. The man on the motorcycle is a German soldier. There appears to be a notably friendly atmosphere between the Dutch and German soldiers, especially considering that hostilities had only recently ceased and both parties had been firing on each other. The photo was likely taken at the end ofMay 1940 before the Dutch soldiers went on extended leave. These are likely artillery soldiers, possibly from III-14 R.A. who had a headquarters near Dordtwijck, which burned down during the fighting in May 1940.
