Germans on the Zwijndrechtse bridge

German soldiers are driving a Sd.Kfz. 2, or so-called ‘Kettenkrad,’ over the Zwijndrecht Bridge during World War II. The Sd.Kfz. 2 was a light half-track vehicle with a motorcycle at the front. The vehicle was intended for light transportation purposes. The Zwijndrecht Bridge is still the same bridge that German paratroopers captured from Dutch troops in May 1940. The bridge remained in use by the German army throughout the war. Only the railway bridge was blown up. The traffic bridge was spared such a fate, which is why we can still drive over it to this day, just like these German soldiers in the photo.
