Second toll 1940

German paratroopers and Dutch prisoners of war watch from the barracks camp near Tweede Tol, likely observing the Luftwaffe bombardment on the positions of the 25th artillery department in the Hoeksche Waard. The barracks camp was constructed for soldiers of I-17 R.A. and was taken over by German paratroopers in the morning of May 10, 1940, after a brief fight. Subsequently, the barracks camp was used by the staff of Fallschirmjäger Regiment 1. Dutch prisoners of war were also gathered there, and it served as a temporary emergency medical station.

The house in the background still stands to this day. Nothing remains of the barracks camp.
