Fighting in the Houweningenstraat

Remnants of the houses on the Houweningenstraat in Dordrecht in May 1940. The houses were completely destroyed by the fighting, but as seen in the photo, the row of houses was completely rebuilt. Where there is now a playground where children regularly play, there were field graves of German soldiers in May 1940. A stark contrast. Today, there is nothing at this location that reminds of the destruction of May 1940, except for this photo.
