Pontonnier at the KweekSchool

A soldier of the army maritime engineer corps stands guard at the Kweekschool, at the corner of the Veersteiger and the Binnen-Walevest. Nearby, on the Buiten-Walevest, were the Benthienkazerne and the Pontonnierskazerne. The latter still stands today. This army maritime engineer is wearing a Model 16 helmet, indicating that this photo was taken sometime in the early 1930s, when the army maritime engineers had not yet switched to the later Model 34 helmet.
