Police station on the Groenmarkt

Sandbags are placed in front of the police station on the Groenmarkt near the town square. The sandbags were laid during the May days of 1940 as a precaution to protect the building. Fortunately, the fighting did not reach this part of the inner city. The Germans were held back at the bridges over the canals. Afterward, the Dutch army retreated to Papendrecht.
