Damage Toulonselaan

A tree split in half on Toulonselaan stands as a silent witness to the fierce battles that took place here in May 1940. Cyclists from the Light Division clashed with troops from the German Gruppe de Boer, who tried to cross the railway from the cemetery to advance further into the city center. As a result, heavy fighting occurred between Dutch and German troops in the area around Oranjepark on May 12 and 13, 1940.
