Intersection Voorstraat with Steegoversloot
A remarkable photo of German soldiers on the Voorstraat in Dordrecht. Why, you ask? The observant viewer will notice the Dutch flag on the left. This means that this photo was taken during the liberation. The people of Dordrecht still had to wait on May 5th, 1945, for the arrival of the Canadians, which meant that the Germans remained in authority in the city until May 9. Thus, it was possible for the first Dordrecht residents to celebrate liberation while armed Germans were still walking around the city. A peculiar sensation.
